LCD Soundsystem has partnered with Pulse Films to create a Sundance hit that is not quite biopic, but not quite a concert film. The production offers an intimate portrait of LCD Soundsystem frontman James Murphy as he is playing out the band’s farewell concert at Madison Square Garden, New York. Pulse Film’s cofounder, Thomas Benski explains that the film ”has a much more playful edge to it and kind of blends different genres, from documentary to scripted to concerts, to tell a universal story, of a man at the crossroads of life.”

The movie will get a theatrical release in July but it will also have a social-media-driven, on-demand component. Benski explains that they bypassed traditional media platforms and asked fans if they want to see the film in their city. If there was the demand, Pulse got the film there. Online access will soon be granted, giving easy, early access at a low price to those who are eagerly awaiting the film.

The film will be playing all over North America, in selected cities, this Wednesday, July 18th. Locations and schedule are listed here! Be sure to buy tickets in advance.
