Hear Ye, Hear Ye! The Royal Concept has Arrived!

Last March 21st, we found and posted a new pop-rock track called “Gimme Twice” by The Concept, in the The BEATnik #23. Well, we’ve been staying up-to-date with the Swedish rock band and apparently they gained some serious notoriety as they are officially renamed, ‘The Royal Concept’.

It goes without saying that TRC has felt some strong French-rock, Litzomaniac-influence but don’t count them out because of mimetic tendencies. Band members: Robyn, Tove Styrke, MRTN and Vernonica Maggio deliver unique songs that are on the level with those of legendary groups: The Shins, Cake, and Phoenix.

The Royal Concept releases their first, self-titled EP, and their sound is all ready refined. When we peruse the music onslaught from SoundCloud and find new EP’s we usually expect to see glimmers of potential within a large room for improvement – that is not the case with TRC. The debut EP hooks listeners from the opening angst-inspiring anthem ‘World on Fire’ and continues with what feels like a hit-single in ‘Gimme Twice’.

The chirping rifts, 90′s-vibe synthesizers and timeless vocals in my favorite track, ‘Knocked Up’, draw similarities to songs by Cake – think ‘No Phone’ – whilst all the while maintaining a unique identity. Track number four on the EP, ‘Goldrushed’ has undeniable flavors of Phoenix’s Litzomania.

Once you get to the track D-D-Dance you will find a band that is all their own. Rounding-off with an epic EP finale, listeners get ‘In The End’, and immediately you can taste some Shins flavors, mmmmm delicious… but when you get to the bridge, the sound gets even bigger and again they retain a truly unique identity.

The Royal Concept personality is rich and evident in their music and photographs. Their music speaks to a generation of 20 and 30 somethings… those of us seeking to find a warm place under the sun. They uplift and for that I know listeners will want to listen.

TRC may be in the same genre as the previously mentioned pop-rock legends but they offer something new, something clean and happy, something that makes you want to jig. That something is a vintage sound brought to the new youth. Its something we haven’t figured it out but its making our eardrums tingle and we want more.

With only one EP out, TRC has a bright future. As they grow we shall expect greatness, after all they are Royalty. Browse the list below and make sure not to miss an opportunity to see these guys before they make hit huge!
