Each September millions of people from around the world descend on Munich to attend the legendary Oktoberfest. This past Saturday the beer-drinking festival opened its doors after Munich mayor Christian Ude kicked off the festivities by tapping the first keg of beer and yelling “O’Zapt is!” (It’s tapped!).

This year six million people are expected to attend, and what better than beer drinking to serve as the main activity? Last year visitors drank 8 million one-liter mugs of beer. As having been to this festival I can assure you that a weekend at Oktoberfest is an experience of a lifetime. Below are a series of photos from the first few days of the festival (via The Atlantic).
