14-year-old Zev from Natick, Massachusetts, has taken the photography world by storm with his surreal photo manipulations. Better known by the nickname of ‘fiddle oak’, Zev presents a highly imaginative portfolio of surreal self-portraits, which he created together with his sister Nellie (aged 17). His work seems to mirror the transition from the fairy-tale childhood worlds into those that are way more complicated and still unknown.

How Does iTunes Radio Stack Up?

Google isn’t the only one trying to get in on the music streaming game. On Monday June 10, Apple announced a new music streaming service called iTunes Radio. Although the company has already created a name for itself in the digital music space, it will now go head-to-head with a whole slew of web radio leaders like Pandora, Spotify, iHeartRadio, Slacker, and more.

iTunes Radio is most similar to Pandora, allowing users to create custom radio stations based on songs and artists, while also discovering new music through “featured” radio stations. Although it’s free for iTunes users, iTunes Radio will feature ads for those who are not iTunes Match subscribers.

Thirteen-year-old Pandora, which has 200 million registered users, released a statement calling iTunes Radio “an evolution of their iTunes offering to bring it on par with other streaming music services.”

The Swedish-based Spotify, which launched in 2008 and came to the U.S. in 2011 — also has a radio service that serves its 24 million monthly active users and 6 million paying subscribers. With 20 million licensed songs, Spotify actually beats out Pandora, Slacker and iHeartRadio in terms of its library, but trails behind Xbox Music’s database of 30 million songs. Pandora is the clear adoption leader with 70 million monthly active users and 200 million registered users, but that doesn’t mean Apple can’t catch up. I love my video games and I love my history, and although this trailer for Xbox One’s exclusive “Ryse: Son of Rome” is totally historically off-base, it looks seriously rad. I can’t wait to crawl in a dark cave and play this for hours.

The Best Underwater Photos of 2013

University of Miami’s Rosenstiel School of Marine and Atmospheric Science’s Underwater Photography Contest recognizes amateur underwater photography each year.

Started in 2005, the contest has grown in popularity, with over 700 entries submitted this year, according to university scientist and contest judge Jiangang Luo.

“All the pictures we got were large, and high quality,” said Luo. “It was a really tough job to narrow it down to a few.”

The contest is open to any photography enthusiast, as long as they earn less than 20 percent of their income taking pictures. This year, entries came from all over the globe, with submissions from 23 countries. Categories include macro, wide angle, fish or marine animal portrait, and student work.
